In Bamako, the capital of Mali there are weekly streetparty’s being organised, so called Balanishow’s. Just rent a soundsystem, DJ’s next to it, some chairs for the older people, some lights and your done. Sahel Records released a true cassete, hi bias of Supreme Talent Show It’s a kind of a wild futuristic mix; kuduro, decale, dancehall, bass and eventrap. It might be strange to a few but the energy is pure, fresh and wild.

I am happy to present you the first tune of my collaboration with Neba Solo. It’s a blend of genuine ballofon music and Drum & Bass. Neba is Mali’s primary ballofone player, a national hero decorated twice for his work over there. The project has been kindly supported by Festival sur le Niger, Ségou in Mali were we recorded the tunes and performed for a crowd that went wild. The tune was premiered at Radio France International last week, hitting almost 1000 plays and is downloadable for your pleasure only.

This documentary tells the attachment of the Guineans to the electric guitar. In the villages of Upper Guinea, griots and sorcerers and witch doctors have swapped their traditional instruments against the distorted electric guitars. Showing electric rituals in the bush and great musical scenes in the capital, this film celebrates the diversity of the Guinean culture. I am truly amazed by the fact that here you see that the guitar is implemented in a conscious way getting the same result: Going out of your mind, in a state of trance.

There is this great collaboration of Malian and French artists in France, called Donso. It’s sideproject of KrazyBaldhead (Ed Banger Records). I made a banging Futuristic Broken Coupé-Décalé remix for them. It really brings me back to the time I had in mali with the guys from Super Onze. The remix is featured in a remix compilation, The Denfila remixes,featuring more remixes by Krazybaldhead, Molo, Baconhead and Janski Beeeats. The whole shebang is out on Comet (Fr), the home of Tony Allen.
